La Pavoni Millennium or Pre-Millennium Comparison

La Pavoni has been making lever machines since 1961.

  • Some parts for early versions are no longer available.
  • In 2000, the Europiccola and Professionale grouphead was redesigned; these are called Millennium Models.
  • Earlier versions are referred to as PRE-Millennium.
  • If you're not sure which version you have, you can measure the exterior of your grouphead piston cylinder. The PRE-Millennium is 50mm; Millennium is 60mm. PLEASE NOTE: If you have a very early Pavoni with a grouphead that screws into the boiler (rather than the current diamond-shape flange that bolts on), then the above measurement guidelines do not apply. Please contact us for gasket recommendations.
  • If you're having difficulty measuring the group cylinder or do not have a caliper, note the difference in ratio to the group cylinder (where measured) versus where the bottom flares out to accommodate the portafilter: The Pre-Millennium (left) flares out quite a bit while the Millennium (right) barely flares out. This is because although there is 10mm difference between the groups' cylinders, there is only 2mm difference at the bottom of the group (where the portafilter is inserted).
  • If you're still unsure, another method is to look inside the boiler with a flashlight and determine whether the group-to-boiler tube has the plastic grouphead insert where the tube threads into the back of the grouphead. This plastic insert usually denotes a Millennium group, however, as some machines manufactured near the year 2000 are a compilation of both Millennium and Pre-Millenium parts, it is best to take all of these factors into into consideration when determining which parts to purchase for your unit.
